April Showers
The rainy season in Los Angeles usually isn’t a very long one, but hey we need a little to keep everything so green! What better way to beat those rainy April Showers day than to wear a stunning trench and Illistevan flower umbrella to brighten your mood. And maybe get a jump start on those May flowers.
What to do on a rainy day in Los Angeles
- Vans Skateboard park in Anaheim. Can cater the needs of the more adventurous sole. Or try out iFly Hollywood for some indoor skydiving.
- Rock climbing. There is dozens of rock climbing gyms in the area, Hangar 18, has many in the area.
- Go to a movie at the Vista Theater. The historic Vista Theater shows reruns of your favorites and the newest blockbuster hits. Plus the concessions are reasonably priced!
- Get cultured at LACMA. Spend the afternoon browsing the modern and historic artwork contained in these halls. You can easily spend a day or more at this Los Angeles staple.
- Shopping is always an option! The Beverly Center is in West LA and has high class names like Hugo Boss and Dior. The Glendale Galleria has options for the rest of us with stores like Macys, JCPennys and Nordstroms.

The New Year has finally settled in, Pantone has declared Emerald Green the color
of the year, sheer garments are a thing of the past and Snooki is still on television. Time
to get ready for 2013 in a robust optimism. Perhaps buying that new dress a size too
small for the extra motivation at the gym. Here are some of my favorite new trends
for the spring and some predictions for the New Year ahead.
Lost In Trend Transition
The combat boots of fall and winter will carry into spring. Being matched with shorts and tights instead of heavy leggings and skinny jeans. Ombre hair will hopefully die out, but might still be adopted by the late adapters.

Bright colors all over will take over, being a more a statement piece. The question is
which color will you choose to match all of your spring outfits?

Heavy Hardware jewelry will still bring a hard edge to the jewelry industry. Filled
with pyramid shapes, arrows and other sharp. Maybe we are just preparing for an
impromptu hunger games.

New Styles on the Block
See through accessories Think of jellies with a little more class. I’m unsure if the entire world needs to know
all of my secrets and spy gear I keep in my going out bag. But airport security will
appreciate the trend. Maybe it will move to clothing and we can get our “traveling
suite” on whenever venturing great distances.

Fringes
A nod back to the 70’s and the Pocahontas purse you had when you were younger,
fringes bring sexy swinging addition to any outfit.

Gladiators
The strappy shoes made a slight appearance 2 years ago but made a strong
reappearance on the runways this year. Lets hope they include the lazy person
zipper option up the back.

Gypsy
Gypsy Weddings on TLC might bring out the worst oftentimes of this group. But
when placed in the designers hands, the results is a little less knock down drag out
girl fights and a little more jewel tones.

Totes
With bringing your own bag being a staple in stores, and a requirement in some
cities. See said Portlandia episode for perfect example. It also makes a more
affordable option to tote around your favorite brand, for a much lesser price than
the leather branded purse option.

Frost Yourself 2013
Now that I work in the jewelry industry I must admit I’ve become more than a little bit obsessed and am definitely very excited about the new trends for this spring. My next purchase is going to have to be a beautiful pair of antique teardrop earrings. Valentines day maybe…. Aww romance. What is going to be your next addition? Spiky earrings or a snake bauble perhaps?

Lets start out with one of the biggest trends, and a more surprising one to be honest. Geometric shapes are starting to bring the hardcore to contemporary. The punk rock to the soccer mom. Almost anyone can pull of the sharp jagged edges now. Styled right, definitely. Can be seen as the major trend at any artisan craft fair, but is making its way into popular lines as well.

Neon Color blocking, is a unique combination this spring. Using plastics and metal together to bring out the contrast and the brightness of this trend. The neon though might turn out to be a little bit more appropriate for the summer months, or any rave you have scheduled I suppose.

Rose gold, the trend of throwing in a little extra copper with your gold is coming back. The rosy color can add a softer romantic touch to any piece. Be careful though as rose gold can lose its color based on its quality and possibly its value if it’s a more expensive piece, aka actually gold.

Cuffs can still be found on the trend leaders of the Hollywood set. Bold and big, even stacking several on top of each other. Most often seen in different metals, but can also make an appearance in wraps and leather cuffs. Can be a stunning statement with all matching hardware.

Vintage pieces are showing up in several collections this spring. Subtle drop earring, especially in rose gold can add that soft feminine touch you are looking to bring to any outfit. And make you ready for all the Great Gatsby parties to follow the movie release in May. Excuses to wear a flapper dress? Yes please!

In case you haven’t visited a Chinese restaurant this year to check out the placemats, it is officially the year of the snake, and is reflected very well in jewelry as well this year. Take your badassness to the next level by wearing a snake cocktail ring to your next get together. It is sure to turn some heads and maybe gets some hearts racing.

Bringing jewelry away from the traditional placements it’s climbing up to the hair. Wrapping a necklaces around your locks or placing a necklace in your hair can add an opulent sparkle. This trend has already been seen all over the runway at major event. My only worry is how you are going to get that out without ripping out half your hair in the process.
Amber stone is coming in slowly. It’s low price point and low usage could make it even more desirable this season. I also am a little partial to Amber stones obviously because of the name… Maybe you will even get part of a dinosaur in yours, or just a mosquito, same thing.

So go ahead Frost Yourself 2013.
